Pixel Toolbox

Fix, arrange, preview, and export sprite animations without fighting your tools.

Pixel Toolbox is a desktop tool for cleaning up sprite sheets and short frame animations. It’s made for the annoying in-between work that comes up all the time in game dev: figuring out a sprite sheet layout, reordering frames, fixing alignment, tweaking timing, touching up a few pixels, and exporting the result in a useful format.

It can import PNG sprite sheets, animated GIFs, MP4/WebM video, and Phaser 3 JSON Hash atlases. For sprite sheets, it can suggest likely grid layouts automatically, or you can set the rows, columns, spacing, margins, and frame size yourself.

Once imported, you can drag frames into order on the timeline, duplicate or delete them, adjust per-frame timing, create named animations, and preview them forward, reverse, or ping-pong. Onion skinning and per-frame offsets make it easy to fix sprites that jump around between frames.

There’s also a small built-in pixel editor for quick corrections, with pencil, eraser, fill, eyedropper, selection, copy/paste, and undo/redo.

When you’re done, export as a horizontal, vertical, or grid sprite sheet, individual PNG frames, generic JSON metadata, or a Phaser 3 atlas. Trimming, padding, margins, edge extrusion, and transparent or solid backgrounds are supported too.

Pixel Toolbox isn’t trying to become a full art package. It’s for easily doing the common sprite operations as quickly as possible.

Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Windows and macOS builds are currently unsigned, so your OS may show a warning the first time you launch them.
